Professor Wang is one of the principal pioneers of radiation oncology and radiosurgery in China, with more than forty years devoted to the clinical and scientific study of combined-modality cancer treatment. His particular strength is precision radiotherapy for malignant tumours of the lung, stomach, ovary, prostate, kidney, cervix, tongue, esophagus and intracranial region, as well as lymphoma.
He was among the first in China to organise and deliver concurrent chemoradiotherapy, hyperthermia-assisted radiosensitisation, conformal radiotherapy, three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiotherapy and stereotactic radiotherapy. That early work built the foundation for accurate staging, correct target-volume delineation and rational treatment planning that his team still relies on today.
